EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS
CAFE EVENTS | ART IN THE CAFE | CAMPAIGNS AND EVENTS | ORGANIC VEG IN CLEVEDON

Observer Ethical Awards 2010OBSERVER ETHICAL AWARDS 2010

Please vote for the Better Food Company, and spread the word!

I know we may not quite evoke the glamour of the red carpet, but even in Veg Land it's award season - just like the Oscars, only with a bit of mud. First up, and over to you, our friends and customers, it's the Observer Ethical Award. Last year we were runners up. This year we're going for gold.

As well brimming with healthy, crunchy, lip-smacking heartiness, local produce and lashings of bonhomie, we're also growers of fantastic organic veg and deliverers of fruit and veg boxes. Worthy of 1 minute of your attention surely ... thank you kind people x

ART IN THE CAFE
If you’re a local artist and interested in exhibiting in the café, please email lucy@betterfood.co.uk or pop into the shop and leave your contact details with a member of staff. Be prepared for a wait though – the wall has been very popular, and the waiting list is pretty long. You’ll get your turn eventually! So far I have bookings up until September 09, and enough artists to take us up to early 2010! If you can fill a slot at short notice, that would be good to know… thanks.

URGENT CAMPAIGN:

Tescos at the former Jesters site on Stokes Croft? They must be joking!
Bristol City Council quietly granted planning permission for a new Tescos on Stokes Croft with wholly inadequate public consultation. Tesco’s initial planning application was done under another name, minimal consultation sought, and not surprisingly no objections received as no one knew about it… It’s not too late – with enough local objection, the decision is reversible! Sign an e-petition at epetitions.bristol.gov.uk/epetition_core/community/activepetitions, or see notesco.wordpress.com.

New Organic Fruit and Veg shop opens in Clevedon
Hurray for Carl

At last someone has opened an organic fruit and veg shop in Clevedon. Carl, who came to help us shape our new style shop in 2007, has just opened a shop called The Veg Box. It is in Old Street, Clevedon. So if you know any one who lives out that direction please let them know. Its a brave move, but driven by a passion to make good fresh local food available in his own town. He also does deliveries to towns and villages local to Clevedon.

We are delighted for him and for all those people who have asked when someone was going to do this. Carl is great with fruit and veg for freshness display and customer service.

Visit the shop at 17 Old Street, Clevedon, or see www.thevegbox.biz.
